The Process

Following the success of our parent and sister companies in Germany and France respectively, we at VEKA wanted to make a difference here in the UK. Our industry leading recycling process offers window makers, installers and waste companies, like yourself with a sustainable and reliable recycling partner.

Once your batch of uPVC windows and doors has been transported to our facility, we can begin our four step closed loop process. Each stage has been perfected over the years, ensuring that we are being as environmentally friendly as possible while also extracting the maximum amount of uPVC from each batch.

① Delivery & shredding

The discarded plastic windows and doors arrive at our factory complete with fittings, reinforcements, seals and glass residues. In the industrial shredder or hammer mill, they are compressed and crushed for further processing.

② Metal separation

Metal separation

From here, we break up the material in our sorting system. The first steps sort by size so that we can handle each piece in the best possible way. Next we remove any metals that have been present in the window or door, including all the handles and hinges (remember – you don’t have to take these off for us, we have the technology!)

③ PVC extraction

PVC extraction

With the help of air-settling tables and perforated plates, all glass and rubber parts are separated. Under permanent computer and video control, the remaining PVC particles are brought to a uniform grain size of a few millimetres, cleaned and sorted fully automatically according to colour.

④ Refinement and quality control

Quality control

The PVC material is further granulated, and the last foreign substances are detected and separated by a very thorough, final quality inspection. The regranulate, which is now sorted by type, can - like the other sorted materials - be fed back into the material cycle.
