Disposal of Double Glazed Units
There are many ways to dispose of double glazed units. We can carry out uPVC window and door recycling to reuse uPVC for future manufacturing. Each window and door has a lifecycle between 30 to 40 years and can be recycled up to ten times, providing us with a total lifespan of around 350.
If we dispose of double glazed units appropriately, we can help to look after the environment and produce sustainable uPVC windows and doors that can be used for future double glazed units. Recycling old double glazed units couldn’t be easier, as we have the infrastructure to carry out this process.
Here at VEKA Recycling, we work with our sister company, VEKA compounds, to recycle uPVC double glazed units to produce contamination-free pellets. We then pass this onto our approved list of extruders to make recycled uPVC windows and doors. Recycling double glazed units is a great way to become environmentally friendly.
Double Glazed Unit Disposal Process
We have developed a recycling process that is as sustainable as possible. We offer a free collection for any old uPVC windows and doors. The routes that we take are carefully planned to ensure that we don’t spend too much time on the road and do multiple collections in one trip.
Once the uPVC double glazed units reach our facility, we carry out the sorting process. Each uPVC profile of the double glazed units is broken into smaller sizes and put in relevant size groups. This makes it easier for us to go through.
When the uPVC is in the correct size groups, we then sort through the material and remove any non-uPVC components. This includes hardware accessories, such as hinges, which our technology can do itself.
We continue to break down the materials into appropriate size groups and ensure that any non-PVC materials have been removed. VEKA compounds then take over and use a melt-filtration system to turn PVC into contamination-free pellets.
Double Glazed Unit Disposal Benefits
Sustainable
The correct disposal and recycling of uPVC double glazed units have fantastic benefits to the environment. By relying more on eco-friendly windows and doors allows we to improve our energy savings. With the long lifespan of recycled uPVC windows and doors, we don’t have to consume a lot of energy making brand-new windows.
When waste goes to landfill, there is a risk that it will overflow, which is detrimental to the land and habitat of local animals. By choosing to recycle double glazed units, we can lower the amount of waste in landfills and become greener. Continuous recycling will provide us with long-term benefits.
Economic Benefits
There are many economic benefits to both homeowners and the government regarding recycling double glazed units. Landfill is costly to run, especially when there is too much of it. Over time the economy may suffer if we misuse landfill. By reducing this waste, we can help to boost our economy and become more sustainable.
For manufacturers and installers who sell recycled uPVC windows, this will be an extremely attractive feature to your customers. You can offer them high-quality and sustainable products at affordable prices. We can all save our planet and our pennies as we invest in recycled uPVC windows and doors.
Legislation
Over the past few years, we have seen a lot more legislation on the environment, and companies have been going the extra mile to become more sustainable. If businesses adhere to the latest regulations, we can all do our bit to help save the environment. Disposing of double glazed units is a great way to comply with the latest laws.
Thanks to our commitment to the environment, we have received the ISO 14001 accreditation. This certificate is globally recognised and sets the standard for environmental management systems. There are over 250,000 organisations that have this certificate, and that goes through annual audits to certify that their production meets the industry regulations.
